The Write-Aid Wizard

Hello!

 

I’m Johnathon Pape, the founder of the company and Chief Write-Aid Wizard. Write-Aid is like a beloved grandchild to me—the culmination of an incredibly diverse career that ultimately has been about creating effective communication, highly functional structure, compelling narrative, and emotionally powerful products.  My “children” have come in many forms and crossed many creative borders.  My professional portfolio includes work as a writer, theatrical director, university professor, marketing and advertising executive, coach, and frequent consultant for creative projects within many disciplines.  Write-Aid was born when I realized that my passion for communication, my broad knowledge base of English language and grammar, and my eclectic life and work experience could significantly improve people’s writing skills.

 

I first learned the importance of clear and effective storytelling through my work in the theatre. As an international stage director of theatre, musical theatre, and opera with over 100 productions to my credit, my work includes everything from a world premiere at New York City Opera to a critically acclaimed play about the women who served in Viet Nam that was staged in the National Cemetery in Los Angeles.  I have participated in the development of many new works as a director, librettist, consultant, script doctor, and/or dramaturge. 

 

Through my theatre work, I’ve traveled extensively and helped people communicate effectively in a variety of languages.  In addition to my work with numerous American companies, I have directed for an Irish Arts Festival, the National Theatre of Israel, and I was awarded a Fulbright research grant in opera and theatre to the Czech Republic.  Because I love to travel and have such respect for people who speak multiple languages, I am excited to facilitate written English for the members of the global community through Write-Aid.

 

My communication skills were further developed when I began teaching.  I have taught numerous courses at the professional and university level and am frequently invited to conduct master classes.  There’s nothing like teaching others to strengthen your ability to communicate an idea in a variety of ways and clarify your own beliefs and skills.

 

Through a fortunate, if rather circuitous path, I had the opportunity for consulting work at a top advertising agency in New York.  This opened a whole new world for me and provided invaluable insights into the corporate arena.  My writing and communication skills also gained useful overlays for business.

 

One of the most important contributing factors to my facility with communication —whether written, spoken, or sung—is my highly-developed intuitive ability.  This allows me to cut straight to the essence of an idea, capture the intention of what wants to be communicated, and find the best way to convey that meaning. 

 

Write-Aid brings together the many passions and skills that I have developed throughout my life, and through a delightful bit of wizardry, enlists them to make magic with your written English. I look forward to working with you in Write-Aid.
